Calculate the mass of salt:

Instead of using salt concentrations in irrigation water, groundwater and soils, it can be revealing to calculate the mass of salt that is added through irrigation.The calculations below give an indication of what salt mass is applied on a 1 ha irrigated field.

Irrigation depth for a year (mm)		Concentration of irrigation water (dS/m)		=	2.3 ton/ha
Groundwater contribution for a year (mm)		Concentration of ground water (dS/m)		=	4.48 ton/ha
Depth of root zone (cm)		Average salt mass in soil (mg/cm3)		=	90 ton/ha
